MegaMek is a Java based program, so you must have Java 8 (or later) installed on your computer. Download Java here.
Stable vs. Development
We recommend that most users download and use the stable verion of the programs to minimize issues with bugs. The development versions are only for those users interested in testing and bughunting new features.
Installation and Running
To install the programs, unzip the download into the directory of your choice. To run the programs follow the platform specific instructions below.
To run the programs from Windows, just double-click on the given program icon from within the folder you unzipped.
The Unix/Linux releases do not include application binaries, but you can run the programs directly from the included JAR files. On some desktops, you may just be able to double-click these JAR files in order to run the programs. you can also run the programs (MegaMek, in the example below) from the command line with the command:
java -jar MegaMek.jar &
The Mac OSX installation now uses the same download as the Unix/Linux version. You just need to double-click the JAR file to run the program. You may have to also allow the opening of these files in your security preferences.
This download will install MekHQ, MegaMek, and MegaMekLab. If you want to use all three programs, then this download is all that you need. Older releases and source code available on GitHub.
This download will only install the base MegaMek program. This is recommended if you have no interest in using the MekHQ program. Older releases and source code available on GitHub.
This download will only install the MegaMekLab program. This is recommended if you just want record sheets for a tabletop game, or you want to customize mechs for a MegaMek game. Older releases and source code available on GitHub.
This download contains additional resources such as camo packs and character portraits that are not included with the default program downloads.
